A lot of people thought that was incoherent nonsense a decade ago on this forum https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-b ... 1384931533

Re: Uri Geller's Mind power as a Nuclear defense
Reminds me of a couple of friends who had a bet on whether the Queen mother could live forever. They shook hands on the deal before one of them realised that he could never collect on the bet. Similarly if we're not reduced to the stone age in radioactive hellfire then Uri can claim victory but if h...

Uri Geller's Mind power as a Nuclear defense
Just seen this doing the rounds on the twitters. Kinda don't want to rip it to shreds just in case Putin is deranged enough to worry about it. But on the other hand what if our great and powerful feel they're protected by this mind shield and choose to risk more provocative action.

Re: Terrorism
It is a concern but beyond clicking the red thumbs down where I see it expressed I'm not sure if there's any worthwhile response. Actively opposing it might fuel the extreme polarization we see in society. I think all I can do is to bring my boys up to be more considered thinkers.

Terrorism
I take the yougov online surveys. Probably have more chance of influencing the government that way than voting. The latest was "How likely do you think another terrorist attack on Britain is?" The final question being an open form question: do you have any further comments on terrorism. Mi...

Re: "Are you a Control Freak?
Well I don't think so. Results were
Overall controlling personality score = 30 / 80
Controlling yourself = 15 / 40
Controlling others = 15 / 40
However I've can't see where to find out what that means.

I wonder if there's any more confounding variables than the existence of the tropics.

Re: I miss the old days
Hi Jon, I see skepticism as a way of thinking, quality control for ideas. Paranormal was always crying out for that approach as was alternative medicine. Plenty of overlap in that venn diagram. Taking on creationist trolls was always a good proving ground for the skeptical muscles. Exposure an educa...

Re: Electrolysed salt water cleaning spray
I must confess I'm a little bemused by this. My first question looking at the design was how they kept the hypochlorous acid and the alkali sodium hydroxide separate and how you switched between using one or the other. However, looking in greater detail at the instructions it appears that the acid a...

Re: Boris Johnson's fall will come - and it will be swift and brutal.
Every politician falls eventually. However the article spends most of it's time explaining why it's not happening. We knowingly elected a casually racist, flag shagging, lying, cheating toff with his hands in the til. So anything that simply confirms this won't change much. In fact we almost think t...
