MMR & Autism... again...

Post by chaggle »

Another big study (95,000+ kids) shows that there is no link. I don't know why they bother checking this any more. Bit like testing Homeopathy - there's no point.

Anyway, if I'm reading this right, they have uncovered a very slight probability that kids who have NOT had the MMR vax are MORE likely to contract autism. It's an anomaly and is caused by parents of older kids who have autism not getting their younger kids vaccinated because of perceived risk but those kids are more likely to become autistic because their older siblings have it.

Have I got that right?

The reluctance of some parents to vaccinate the younger siblings of children with the disorder could make it appear that there is less autism among children given the jab - not more, he says.

“Even so, short of arguing that MMR actually reduces the risk of ASD in those who were immunised by age two years, the only conclusion that can be drawn from the study is that there is no signal to suggest a relationship between MMR and the development of autism in children with or without a sibling who has autism,” he writes.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.
