I know there's at least one whisky-(or whiskey)-lover around these parts ...

Did you know that today (16th May) is WORLD WHISKY DAY?
IT'S THE best day of the year for whisky lovers the world over.

May 16 represents a momentous date in the calendar for anyone with a passion for the world’s greatest alcoholic spirit.

World Whisky Day is the brainchild of whisky consultant and author Blair Bowman, who first founded it back in 2012 as a way to unite whisky lovers all around the world.
“World Whisky Day is about making whisky fun for all, not about being exclusive or prescriptive. All you need to participate is a bottle of whisky/whiskey – whatever variety, however you enjoy it.

“The only rule is to drink responsibly!"
'

And for those of you who love a quiz - there's still time to take part in the 'Big Fat Whisky Quiz'' - How much do you really know about your uisce beatha ('water of life')? :
As part of the celebrations, Blair will be joined by whisky-loving friends Chris White, Joseph Trotter and Matthew Cordiner for a ‘lockdown’ version of their annual Big Fat Whisky Quiz, taking place at 8pm BST (UTC+1) on World Whisky Day.

Anyone wanting to take part in teams of up to five can register here with some of the proceeds from the event going to The Drinks Trust.

Alternative, the quiz will be livestreamed from Edinburgh on the World Whisky Day Facebook page.

Sounds like an excuse to polish off the Glendronach Port Wood

Sadly I can longer partake of strong drink.

I have the odd beer from time to time but mostly Becks Blue 0.0% which isn't bad at all actually.

I'm being bombarded on FB by ads for this stuff...

https://threespiritdrinks.com/?gclid=Cj ... gcQAvD_BwE

Alcohol free spirits!!!

All sorts of claims made about (and testimonials to) 'effects'.

The price is astonishing - £25 per bottle and to add insult to injury a bottle is only 50cc. : thdown

Not just me then. I'll stick to the cheap option, single malt.

I've had nice alcohol free cider before and a nice alcohol free milk stout. But surely with spirits the alcohol burn is part of the experience.

The have other additives that seem designed to provide a similar experience. I've been on very low alcohol recently due to kidney issues so I did investigate this stuff when it appeared in my feed but I think it easier to just drink less or not at all.

I have long had a preference for the strongly-flavoured, peaty, western island malts, but I've found my taste changing to something lighter and sweeter. I've had a few bottles of Dalwhinnie Winter Gold which I like, and recently tried a 15-yo Dalwhinnie which is surprisingly different - and very impressive. It is available for around £35 for 70 cl at the moment, which is not bad for such a vintage.

I got my sister a gin advent calendar, a different gin ever day.

I think god is hard of hearing, as I clearly asked for a double gin.
